Messages from the Owls,
a class in Cambridge

Hugely proud to see these on my Twitter. A primary school teacher in Cambridge says she is encouraging her year 5 Owls class to think about just getting better instead of coming first, following the video message I posted to Martin last week.

I know I can’t win Strictly, but I feel it would be wrong (and disrespectful to Karen) to decide there is no point competing and lark about or give up.

So I have promised Karen to keep working at getting better for as long as we are in the contest, even if we can’t win, and if that has inspired a group of primary school pupils in Cambridge then we can take encouragement from that as well.

You have brought in a new concept to the idea of learning anything new. It is wonderful encouragement for children and grown ups. Individuals have different learning abilities and strengths and weaknesses.

I love this quote: “Everyone is genius, but if you judge a fish by its ability to climb a tree, it’ll spend its whole life believing it’s stupid”

Happy dancing: we never stop learning.

You have become a national treasure just by being a thoroughly nice bloke. We were friends with your Dad & Mum at a similar age to what you are now and you are the absolute image of him in every way. X

I’m so glad the nation is coming together in celebrating a truly lovely bloke!! What a message to send out! Try, try, try and never give up! That’s the way Jeremy! I LOVE watching you on Strictly! Keep up the good work! 🙂

You give such joy every weekend with your fun and laughter. I used to go to dancing lessons in my 20’s and I’m sure if it had been as enjoyable as you make it I would have stayed and done more with what I learnt. Good luck with dancing this weekend I do so want to see you go to Blackpool.

Contrary to what you say about not winning. I really believe you can. Positivity, passion and perseverance will take you a long way.

You, Jeremy, is what Strictly is about…. It’s about people learning to dance and having fun whilst learning…. It’s not about those who can already dance, getting better ~ people forget this….

Jeremy, you are going out there for all of us who maybe not that young and not the best with such courage and determination and you light up that dance floor with all the effort and hard work that you and Karen have put in that in many peoples eyes you won already. You have already won for us.

What wonderfully sweet letters – this is what makes you such a special man, your humbleness, caring nature and ability to try hard and never give up however hard something is. As I’ve said you are certainly a huge inspiration to me. Very best of luck with everything Jeremy and the Owls. Love Helen. xxx
